Resources and ideas to help promote Drug Info to young adults in your community

The HSC study period is a great time to promote Drug Info to the young people in your library community. It is a time when young people typically spend a lot of time in the library preparing for their exams and socialising. Public libraries often support their young library users with HSC events and other youth-targeted promotions. It is also a time when school leavers are preparing for Schoolies Week and other celebrations, so it is a great time to remind them about the importance of being informed about alcohol and other drugs.

Drug Info has a range of resources to assist libraries in incorporating Drug Info into your youth promotions at this time of year. On this page you will learn all about them.

Drug Info displays

Visibility of your Drug Info collection and the information available on the Drug Info website is one of the best ways of promoting Drug Info to your young adult library users. Here are some ideas for display:

Drug Fact Finder

The Drug Fact Finder is a tablet-based interactive display that is inlcuded as part of the Drug & Alcohol Info Pop-Up program. However, it can be displayed by public libraries at any time using your own tablets and display stands. Display the Drug Fact Finder on your tablet using the following URL:

https://druginfo.sl.nsw.gov.au/drugfactfinder/

Drug Fact Finder QR code quiz poster

The Drug Fact Finder can also be accessed on personal devices through our promotional poster that includes a QR code link to the Drug Fact Finder quiz. Print out posters and display on your library's study desks and other prominent areas. You may choose to offer Drug Info showbags to people who complete the quiz. The poster is available in 10 colours, and can be downloaded here:

Activities in your library

Planning any youth-focused activities in your library? Many public libraries host special after-hours study events for HSC students, often serving food and incorporating games and other fun activities. Ideas for events include:

  • HSC lock-ins
  • Study workshops
  • De-stress sessions and other wellbeing events

Drug Info includes a range of activities and promotions that can be easily incorporated into your youth events. Why not try the following:

Drug Info’s collection of Literary Mocktails make a delicious alcohol-free accompaniment to any library event. Host a mocktail making session or simply serve up one of our recipes as a refreshment at your youth event and give away our promotional recipe cards. You can learn more about our literary mocktail promotions and how to order recipe cards here.

Know Your Standards activities

Each NSW public library service has been supplied with a standard drink educational pouring and display kit (resin kit) as part of the Know Your Standards program. The Know Your Standards toolkit provides instructions and suggested activities around standard drink awareness. Include a standard drinks session as one of the activities at your HSC event.

Drug Info quiz

Include a quiz or trivia competition as part of your lock-in or other HSC event. Make the Drug Fact Finder available on library iPads/tablets; use the QR code quiz to invite attendees to complete the quiz on their phones, or if your event includes a trivia game include some of these Drug Info questions.

Drug Info showbags

Distribute the resources available in the Party Safe party packs with showbags for the attendees of your lock-in. In addition to the Drug Info resources, you may choose to add your library’s promotional resources, healthy snacks or other fun treats to your showbags.
