Rebecca Jones - Drought, flood, heat, dust: living with extremes in arid Australia
5 October 2021
This talk explores the physical and emotional effects of extreme weather on settlers in arid, inland Australia in the early twentieth century, and the ways in which these people adapted to climatic challenges.
Diaries and medical records of nurses and doctors from the Australian Inland Mission and the Flying Doctor Services (1900s to 1950s) provide rich insight into the experiences of drought, flood, heat and dust in far west NSW, Queensland and South Australia.
