    Students use the original artworks of a published illustrator and the original manuscript of a well-known children's author to explore how illustrations can bring a story to life. Teachers can choose from three focus options:

    1. An exploration of the process of writing and illustrating children's books.
    2. The creation of a unique, illustrated story using original artworks.
    3. The creation of a drama piece based on the original manuscript and illustrations of an award-winning children's book.

    Curriculum Outcomes

    English

    • EN4-RVL-01 uses a range of personal, creative and critical strategies to read texts that are complex in their ideas and construction 
    • EN4-ECA-01 creates personal, creative and critical texts for a range of audiences by using linguistic and stylistic conventions of language to express ideas 

    Visual Arts

    • 4.1 uses a range of strategies to explore different artmaking conventions and procedures to make artworks
    • 4.4 recognises and uses aspects of the world as a source of ideas, concepts and subject matter in the visual arts
    • 4.8 explores the function of and relationships between the artist - artwork - world - audience

    Drama

    • 4.1.2 improvises and playbuilds through group-devised processes
    • 4.1.3 devises and enacts drama using scripted and unscripted material
    • 4.2.1 uses performance skills to communicate dramatic meaning

    English

    • EN5-RVL-01 uses a range of personal, creative and critical strategies to interpret complex texts 
    • EN5-ECA-01 crafts personal, creative and critical texts for a range of audiences by experimenting with and controlling language forms and features to shape meaning 

    Visual Arts

    • 5.1 develops range and autonomy in selecting and applying visual arts conventions and procedures to make artworks
    • 5.4 investigates the world as a source of ideas, concepts and subject matter in the visual arts
    • 5.8 uses their understanding of the function of and relationships between artist -artwork - world - audience in a critical and historical interpretations of art

    Drama

    • 5.1.2 contributes, selects, develops and structures ideas in improvisation and playbuilding
    • 5.1.3 devises, interprets and enacts drama using scripted and unscripted material or text
    • 5.2.1 applies acting and performance techniques expressively and collaboratively to communicate dramatic meaning

    $230 for groups up to 15 and $355 for groups of 16 - 30.

    Minimum Supervision Ratio

    Kindergarten – Year 2 - 1 adult per 5 students
    Year 3 – Year 6 - 1 adult per 10 students
    Secondary students - 1 adult per 20 students
