Sharing the collection
Donations to the Foundation help the Library provide access to the collections through digitisation, digital platforms, fellowships and awards, exhibitions, learning services and public programs.
Examples of Foundation-funded projects that have enhanced community access to Library services are listed below.
The Michael Crouch Family Galleries and John B Fairfax Learning Centre
In October 2018, the Library unveiled its most extensive capital works project in nearly a century, doubling the size of our public exhibition spaces, putting more of our collection on display, and opening our first ever dedicated learning space for children.
The new Michael Crouch Family Galleries, the Collectors’ Gallery, the paintings galleries and the John B Fairfax Learning Centre are the most successful Foundation-funded projects in the history of the Library. We are grateful to our benefactors who made our vision a reality.
The Children’s Library
The Children’s Library opened in October 2019, thanks to one of the most successful public appeals in the Foundation’s history.
Located in the Macquarie Street building, this beautiful, purpose-built area offers direct access to the best works for children and young adults.
