The spiritual is political: Magdalene Journal and Christian feminism
Scholar Talks - 1 June 2021
Between 1973 and 1987 Magdalene Journal was published by a collective of Christian Feminists, based in NSW. On its pages, women expressed their despair with the patriarchal Christian traditions of their formation, while also passionately exploring their faith. In poetry, prose and image, Magdalene’s contributors expressed fury and desire, and demanded a feminist Christianity. Magdalene reveals a world of feminist revelation, experienced as spiritually as was it politically.
