Edward (Ted) Herbert Farmer (1909-2001) was NSW Government Architect from 1958-1973. During this time, he had a major influence on architectural design and debate across Australia. Farmer exercised clear leadership in a period that is now regarded as something of a Golden Age for public architecture in NSW; to date, Farmer has not been adequately recognised for his leadership.

Matt Devine leads this riveting Scholar Talk. He is an architect, academic and heritage consultant, who is keenly interested with the history of architecture in NSW. Following over 12 years at the NSW Government Architect’s Office and involvement in the 200th anniversary exhibition of GAO in 2016, he embarked on a SLNSW Fellowship to investigate one of his architectural idols, Ted Farmer.
