In her artist’s statement, Hayley says: ‘On our bodies are painted our stories. These stories include our life journey, our experiences, our ancestors’ experiences, our family’s experiences, our community’s experiences etc. All of these things come together to make an individual’s life. Some lives are both beautiful and stained in a culture of suffering. We carry this history with us as Aboriginal people who love our culture and know our history. Asked to show the beauty of our culture and hide the pain and suffering that continues from our wounds.’
