Art historian David Hansen makes a deep dive into a single (and singular) picture from the Library’s collection. George Lambert’s The Convex Mirror (1916) is not only a tour de force of illusionistic painting, but it contains within its circumference a host of incidental stories: about the artist and his family, about country house architecture and interiors, about style in British Edwardian art, and about the remarkable Australian collector, financier and philanthropist Sir Edmund Davis.
