In this engaging online workshop, the joy of history takes centre stage as students are guided through the process of interpreting, analysing and evaluating sources using examples drawn from the State Library’s collections. Students apply historical terms and concepts while cultivating critical thinking skills to make judgements about the usefulness and reliability of sources.  

In this virtual excursion, students will:  

  • think critically about sources of information 
  • interpret, analyse and evaluate sources 
  • make judgements about the usefulness and reliability of sources 
  • use and understand terminology relating to evaluation of sources. 

Curriculum outcomes

Stage 4

  • HT4-5 identifies the meaning, purpose and context of historical sources 
  • HT4-7 identifies and describes different contexts, perspectives and interpretations of the past 
  • HT4-9 uses a range of historical terms and concepts when communicating an understanding of the past 

Stage 5

  • HT5-5 identifies and evaluates the usefulness of sources in the historical inquiry process 
  • HT5-7 explains different contexts, perspectives and interpretations of the modern world and Australia 
  • HT5-9 applies a range of relevant historical terms and concepts when communicating an understanding of the past
