Provenance note 

This series was previously located at ML A80-2. It was purchased in 1884 from Lord Brabourne by Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for New South Wales, and transferred to the Mitchell Library in 1910. It was part of the accession which became known as the Brabourne collection. 

Background note 

Sir Joseph Banks occasionally penned satirical verse often reflecting social and political change. The verses in this series were most probably written during the years 1806 and 1807 after the death of William Pitt in January 1806, and the fall of the Grenville administration in March 1807. They reflect issues in Banks was deeply involved such as the controversial issue of fen drainage in Lincolnshire.
