Judges' Comments 

Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa is a first-generation Australian Sikh playwright, spoken word artist and performer. Fully Sikh, her debut play, tells the story of a young Sikh girl growing up in suburban Perth. Sukhjit created, wrote and starred in the hugely popular production jointly mounted by Black Swan and Barking Gecko theatre companies.  
 
While Fully Sikh addresses difficult topics – being female, being Sikh and dealing with colliding worlds – it is funny, vivid and provocative. Sukhjit’s robust and entertaining work is about Australian identity, feminism and the power of difficult conversations. We are delighted to award Sukhjit the Early Career Writer Award and cannot wait to see what she writes in the future.
