Visit to the Murrook Culture Centre, Williamtown
Murrook Culture Centre was the venue for Indigenous Services Branch’s latest community visit. Situated on Worimi land, the Williamtown centre created the perfect backdrop for Branch members Clem Girault and Melissa Jackson, along with academic consultants Sophie Nicholls and Lauren Booker, to share and to return copies of manuscript language lists to the local community in a culturally appropriate manner.
Our session about the efforts undertaken by the Library to promote Indigenous language resources was hosted by Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council. Elders and Youth alike are currently engaged in Worimi language revival program therefore materials like our language lists and website are highly sought after. It was heartening to see so many people engaging with the manuscripts and contextualising them with local knowledge and cultural insights.
